Yesterday was my first day back at New Bedford. I missed those kids. I must say, this year is already ten times better than last year. We have twelve in the guad, which is a good number for the size of the corps...um, band. Back when I was in high school, we had 12-13 in the guard. There's lots you can do with that number, so it makes me happy. I also noticed that the new kids are catching on really fast, which is a very good thing. We have the first song worth of drill on paper, which is 29 sets. We got off to a late start last night, so we were only able to teach 8 sets of the drill. We're shooting to do around 15 more sets tonight. I think the theme is movie music...the opener is Beetlejuice, then it goes into Schindler's List, then Terminator, and the closer is Star Wars. The whole design thing is NOT easy. Like finding a guard uniform..."um, here kids...wear this puffy vest because it has nothing to do with your show." Okay...I've got some things to do before I go to practice. Later y'all.
Did I just use the word "y'all?" I think so.
