So. Ebay.

Historically, I've been Skeptical about Ebay.

This probably has an awful lot to do with the fact that I don't trust my fellow man very much, nor am I very interested in what he assures me is an authentic 1970 Fender guitar that he's graciously parting with for only $50 if I bid in the next 30 minutes.

Anyway, was pricing consoles last night and trying to decide what I wanted to do re: replacing stolen property. I was dismayed to discover that they don't seem to be selling regular old 60 gig Xbox 360s anymore. It seems to be either the Elite 120 gig Obsidian Monolith or the crummy Arcade with just 256 MB of memory, which I kind of consider to be a waste of space since I'd just have to go right out and buy more memory for it.

When it comes to electronics, I'm really stuffy about other people's leftovers. I hate the term 'refurbished' because every time I've tried to overcome this aversion of mine, I've only gathered more proof that it's Secret Industry Code for 'just barely back in working order and guaranteed to break within 30 days'.

What's that saying about champagne taste on a beer budget?

The only reason I had the Xbox 360 in the first place is because it was heavily financed by my mother as a combination Christmas and Sorry-I-Didn't-Give-You-A-Birthday-Present.

Originally, jane_drew_ said she'd buy a new one in penance for not renewing the renter's insurance on time. I'm totally not holding her to that because why should she have to pay because some jackass kid decided to help himself to our property. Besides, she's got to go computer shopping and I'd much rather see the money go to getting her a nice new computer that isn't my poor old virus-ridden Toshiba. (I hope the kid has joy of it and all the 'O HERE HAVE SOME PR0N' redirect malware on it.)

So, back to the original topic, I'm Considering Ebay. There are some nice Wiis and Xbox 360s up for less that $100. They're console-only, so I'm going to have to do math on how much it'd cost to purchase memory, game controllers, and yanno maybe a GAME or two before I make my decision.

If I do decide to buy new, I'm probably going to buy a Wii and WiiFit since together they cost EXACTLY what I'd end up paying for Microsoft's Obsidian Monolith. I'm just not so much gamer that I have to have to have the shiny black box. The Elite is more console than I need. I never even hooked mine up to the internet.

On the other hand, I have a bunch of Xbox games and a DDR mat that are now pretty much wasted space. I feel like it's such a shame to have them if I can't use them.

Is very annoying position to be in. Thoughts are appreciated.

obsidian monolith, epic fail is epic
