Sooo, I've been thinking about Supernatural. I just finished the fourth season (Yes, I've been veery behind) and my complaints are pretty normal, I don't like the validation of christian mythology as the "true" mythology, even if "god" is supposedly gone. One of the things I liked about the show was that there was a variety of faiths and that all were supposed true. The first Demon was, not a christian demon but actually based off of a Japanese demon that liked to destroy ships, it was a route demon, one that, like other creatures had a purpose, it killed entire planes and its issue was that it hadn't succeeded on this one particular mission. But now its all about god and the devil.

Personally I don't believe in the paradise lost story. The idea of the epic battle, because well, I don't believe in the devil as an equal to god only opposite. I also have a hard time seeing where this mythos can exist with the idea of tricksters as well. (The trickster is a god, but not God) Because well, the christian god is Monotheistic, there is no place for another god when he's been validated.

I've been unhappy with the way the characters have been treated, mainly because I have my own personal cannon, and its not really working with what happened. I also dislike it when characters end up being the be all end all. Sam and Dean started out as bit players doing small things, I liked that, they didn't start/end apocalypses I understand of course that in order to move the story along they can't just do the same stuff over and over again. But I miss it. The Winchester gospels for example, annoy me though I love the prophet.

I know that as a fan I'm supposed to enjoy the creators vision, and that he knows the characters better then I do, but it doesn't feel like it. I still enjoy the show, and watch it on dvd for the same reasons I always did I love watching Sam and Dean interact. But I just don't love it as much as I used to. And I think Fandom is partly to blame. because I spend more time with fandom then I do the actual cannon and much more with my own idea of how the show goes I feel like the show can be wrong.

I don't love it when they cry, in fact I feel most of the time when the boys cry its odd and jolts me out of the story. I love it when they act like brothers, when they fight and squabble. I loved the first episode with the trickster because they fight like brothers, not highly trained hunters. They're adorable and they fight and they have inside jokes and they do all that. They're boys and the idea of no chick flick moments is great, unfortunately i feel like the creators have ignored season one, where they didn't deal with demons like at all. Where they thought vampires were extinct and they had to consult the journal, even though Dean was all bad ass. The creators have forgotten that the boys didn't know about the demon in any and all sort of reckoning of their childhood and the other material in the series (Comics, books, ect.)

I miss Jo, I know I've said it before, but she had the possibility of being this AMAZING charter's, and she just fell so flat, as did Ellen. They replace them with Ruby (Who I didn't mind but GOD I hated Genevieve's portrayal of her) and Bella.... who I HATED so much and nearly made me want to stop watching the show. (SHE SHOT SAM!)

And the other thing, slight grievance that I have is with the DVD's themselves. The lack of really cool content! These things are 60 bucks a pop, and yes there are those who illegally download, but also you have people who buy legitimately! There's no actor commentary! I love actor commentary, for example, Psych has in its third season has actor commentary on at leas half of its 16 episodes, and the actors seem to have a really fun time of it. And they often fit producers and writers in on the same tracks but they're fun.

Sixty bucks is a lot to shell out for a lot of people (me included) and I hate that a show that has depended this much on its fans (Supernatural has recognized that their fans watching and being vocal has influanced decisions to keep it on air in the past, not so much this season but) doesn't pay them back with stuff like actor commentaries or fun extras. The "factual" stuff on this season had more commentary by the writers then actual real experts (and some of the experts were net experts!?)

Guah, basically right now I'm in a really bad mood, I didn't get the job and to make matters worse the person I think least likely to do a good job did. I am now hoping he crashes and burns and sucks at it. I know I'm a bitter person. But I haven't had a lot of good in my life for the past year, so it's a little harder to be positive.
