I love reading about folklore

While looking through Superstitions of Britain and Ireland by Steve Roud, I noticed what the Grimm writers may have been inspired by with the Mellifer. The book says that bees:

--are quick to take offence if not treated with respect

That bee at the end of ep. 3 stung Nick after he killed the Mellifer queen.

--they know what is going on in the world of humans

The Mellifer are gossips who seem to know an awful lot about what's going on.

--they will not stay in a family of humans which quarrels or swears

The book emphasizes how much conflict annoys them. I'm thinking the Mellifer were killing the Hexenbiests to avoid the ominous conflict (a creature/Grimm war, maybe?) that's brewing. It doesn't perfectly fit the superstition, but there's something there, I think.

Also, I'm noticing I have the most ridiculously healthy comfort foods. Lentils, frozen blueberries, grapes, raisin bread, rice in various forms. I also like the traditional apple pie, French toast, fries, pizza, but I get those less often due to lack of funds. Darn you, lack of funds! Meanwhile, I just stuffed myself silly with lentils.

One of the professors from my old university wrote Don Quixote fanfiction. It's more of a commentary on the state of online literature, but it counts.

grimm, food, fanfiction
