I miss gas stoves

I keep getting stuck trying to figure out what kind of flame on a gas stove equals Low, Med, or High on the dial of an electric one. There are some gas stoves that say that, too, but not the one at my house. I never pay attention to its position, either. I just gauge the flame. Now that I'm stuck with an electric stove for the summer, I wonder, "

Does the electric stove have numbers on its dial? If so, I'd guess 1-3 is a low flame, 4-6 is a medium flame, and 6-9 is a high flame.

I kind of like the creaking my stove does when I turn it on. Makes me think of a submarine diving under pressure.

No, it says Low, Med, Med High and High. Problem is, I don't know how that corresponds to the size of a flame. I don't think of a flame in those terms. It's just: small, smallish, large enough to heat totillas, even larger to scorch the tortillas a little, tiny to keep the pan warm. And I'm always trying to get the flame to be a very precise size for what I'm doing. I think the main problem is that I'm a very visually oriented person and it helps me a lot to see what's going on.

I'm getting used to the sound, but I miss the "whoomp" of the sudden burst of flame. This stove feels like it's cackling at me. It knows I don't know what I'm doing.

Ugh, I hate electric stoves, too. If I ever get a house of my own (instead of just running my parents out of the one I live in now), a gas stove will be a requisite.

Don't ever live in PR, then. There are no no gas powered appliances here. *cries* Everything is electric. Well, I'm only here for the short term, anyway.
