wow... I had a very interesting day today....
For my EMT certification (for those who don't know, its medics stuff, the people who come to your house when you call 911), I was scheduled to work at the Emergency Depart. at Jersey Shore Med. It was really fun, and fast-paced.
At first, they made Camille and me set-up the stretchers... really boring. Afterwords, when patients began to load into our floor, we were allowed to take vital signs and other odd jobs. It was really nice to see the smiles on the patient's faces even when doing little things for them (i.e. get a blanket, some food). Some of these patients had been waiting there for hours (understaffed ER + holiday season + people doing stupid things while drunk/drugged = busy busy at the ER) haha, there was even a drunk guy there. At first, he was throwing up and was behaving erratically. Later, the nurses put him on restraints. Of course, he wasn't a happy camper. And who get's the heat? I do, of course. He starts cursing at me and I believe he even said he was going to sue my mom... lol, fun times, fun times
All in all, very exciting, but I don't think I want to be an ER doc. I mean, once in a while, I like it; it's adrenaline pumping. But after a while, it probably can get on your nerves, you're always stressed out with a blood pressure of 200/150 and migraines 24 hours a day... nah, cardiology is just fine for me....
