i've been thinking a lot about self-perception lately. i think our own true understanding of ourself is the biggest form of ego that exists. every person sees in themselves greatness and is taught to encourage that and whatnot but really i think it just fuels self-absorption, and i think that the best way to understand yourself is to look through a third party objective observer. you are just a person, who isn't anything spectacular to look at really, sort of has acne, and sees himself in a way that isnt necessarily negative or bloviated, but in a way that is biased and often uninformed because we look at ourselves as ideals. obviously a person doesnt think of themselves as a bad person because if they thought that, they would change their behaviors. but often times people inadvertantly think selfishly and choose to only see things through their own perception and i think that is mankinds biggest achilles heel: accepting their own perception, and by doing so, closing off other views that keep them grounded. or maybe im just crazy.
i forgot to say goodbye, and i forgot to say thank you. woops.
i haven't updated anything lately, i guess i havent really had any profound or prolific little nuggets to shoot across the world wide web at you people lately.
i think all state was more gratifying than les mis. and i mean that. which is weird. actually...i take it back, it wasn't. but it was pretty fucking super fucking good. actually i take it back, it was on par with les mis, it's just different, that's all. i've had this song stuck in my head for mucho mucho mucho long time, and i think it has some of the most thoughtful and beautiful lyrics ever. plus the melody is so simple and plain and wonderful, if you dont know it, it's by Tom Waits, and you should download it. it's fucking amazing.
"Time"
Well the smart money's on Harlow and the moon is in the street
And the shadow boys are breaking all the laws
And you're east of East Saint Louis and the wind is making speeches
And the rain sounds like a round of applause
And Napoleon is weeping in a carnival saloon
His invisible fiancee's in the mirror
And the band is going home, it's raining hammers, it's raining nails
And it's true there's nothing left for him down here
And it's time time time, and it's time time time
And it's time time time that you love
And it's time time time
And they all pretend they're orphans and their memory's like a train
You can see it getting smaller as it pulls away
And the things you can't remember tell the things you can't forget
That history puts a saint in every dream
Well she said she'd stick around until the bandages came off
But these mama's boys just don't know when to quit
And Mathilda asks the sailors "Are those dreams or are those prayers?"
So close your eyes, son, and this won't hurt a bit
Oh it's time time time, and it's time time time
And it's time time time that you love
And it's time time time
Well things are pretty lousy for a calendar girl
The boys just dive right off the cars and splash into the street
And when they're on a roll she pulls a razor from her boot
And a thousand pigeons fall around her feet
So put a candle in the window and a kiss upon his lips
As the dish outside the window fills with rain
Just like a stranger with the weeds in your heart
And pay the fiddler off 'til I come back again
Oh it's time time time, and it's time time time
And it's time time time that you love
And it's time time time
And it's time time time, and it's time time time
And it's time time time that you love
And it's time time time
