it's been a while

it's been a long while since i've updated, so here goes.

June's still here and i've got to say it's probably been one of the best months of my life. this summer is going so much better than the last few and i think i've definitely been due for a nice one, and this has been such a nice surprise.

let's see, where to begin.

started off with karen and ryan's wedding. it was a beautiful wedding but also kind of strange for me because karen and i were really good friends in high school and then we kind of drifted apart at app, but i also marched with ryan at app so i knew both bride and groom and it was just kinda weird. also there were a lot of people from high school that i haven't talked to in a long time, and it was just a little awkward for me. i guess my attitude right now is, we didn't talk all that much in high school, we haven't talked at all during college, what all could i possibly have to say to you? oh and also, in the wedding party were jeremy's roommate from freshman year and his fiance which was also weird cause i couldn't stand kristi and karen apparently likes her a lot....who knows.

june also brought tully. i saw him pretty much every day and it was really nice. we were co-directors for bible school this summer so we had a lot of responsibility for getting it ready. we had about 150 kids and another 120 volunteers so it was quite an undertaking. so we met a lot to get things ready. but in the evenings we went to the pub down under. i love the pub. it is quite possibly the seediest bar in durham. we made friends with the bartender and she's pretty much amazing. we could drink all night and she would go ahead and order food for us and then only charge us 20 bucks total. it also turned out that her dad was my middle school band director and is really good friends with our youth minister. she even went to atlantic city and brought me back a souvenir. we're also friends on myspace...lol. i dunno, it was just kinda cool. so we love the pub and vow to never go to another bar in durham and only on nights that christie works. it was also where we celebrated the end of bible school by getting incredibly drunk. drinking with tully was just so nice this month. well, hanging out with him was great too. it was just weird cause we dated a couple summers ago and for some reason or other it didn't work out and all this month i've been thinking, why didn't it? we have so much fun together and we have so much in common. but oh well, que sera sera. christie did write me a note one night that said she was pretty positive we were going to get married and she better be invited. i responded by telling her that we'd have our rehearsal dinner at the pub. so yeah, it was really great hanging out with tully all june, i can't wait till we meet up again in august to discuss bible school and go back to the pub.

one day tully and i did a habitat for humanity build in durham. they were putting the base of the roof up, i forget what exactly it's called, but it's like the subflooring for the roof. anyways, they only had three harnesses and tully's better with a hammer than i am so he got to actually go up there and put the plywood down and i was just a gopher getting water and hammers that had fallen. i also got to help the carpenter guy measure and cut the plywood and send it up to the top. at one point he was sawing the wood and i heard him hit something and i thought to myself, he just hit metal. but he kept sawing through it so i just assumed it was a tough part of wood like a knot or something. after he finally got through, he looked and he had sawed through the chalk line. he was an employee of habitat and so he looked at me and says, i don't think my boss needs to know about this. i just couldn't believe this whole situation because he could have totally ruined his saw. tully said he hit a nail head once and ruined his...this guy completely sawed through a chalkline. so while we were there, this reporter from the herald sun came and interviewed the guy in charge. this house is pretty cool. it's a green house. every piece of wood is used until there is only a chip left to preserve resources. the house is part of a habitat community and all of the trees they had to cut down to build it is going to be recycled into a walking trail that will go around the perimeter of the neighborhood. so after the reporter left, he sent his photographer. as soon as the photographer got there, i looked at him and thought to myself that i'd seen him before and he kind of looked at me weird too. later on he came up to me and asked if i went to app. i was wearing my vdp! shirt and it turns out that his intramural team had played vdp! at some point. i thought that was pretty funny. also there's a chance that my picture was in the paper so, vdp! had been introduced to the triangle now. be proud.

bible school was awesome. i loved every second of it. well, mostly every second. i didn't enjoy having to tell youth to behave and stop gossiping with each other and to pay attention to their kids. but at the same time, i shouldn't have to tell them that. they should already know not to do that. i was pretty disappointed with our youth this summer, but i won't get into that as none of y'all know or care about the youth at my church. this month has really forced me to sit down and seriously consider going into the ministry. i loved solely working for the church this month. i talked to our dce (director of christian education) and she said she'll give me an internship next summer so that's probably what i'll do. just shadow nancy and see what she does every day. i really feel like this is something i could do. tully and i met up with some old youth sponsors in raleigh for dinner. charles has just finished seminary and tully is currently in it and so that's pretty much all they talked about. i was kind of lost, but a lot of it was really interesting. it was kind of weird though because i hadn't seen charles or ashley in about seven years and one ofthe first things charles says to me is "i hear you're going to seminary". it's like everyone knows this but me. charles says that it's like the black spot from the first pirates movie. our old minister haywood said i'm going to seminary, therefore, i must go. he said it tully, charles, marian, and many more. apparently i can't escape it. my mom said haywood is like the godfather, "i'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse." i dunno. we'll see.

i'm in ohio right now. just got back from another crazy night in columbus. i just love columbus because everything is scarlet and gray. it's just so cool to see so many people come together for one team. it's different from duke and carolina. in durham and chapel hill, it's one or the other. carolina blue or duke blue. up here it's all ohio state. it's just awesome. it totally got me ready for football season too. it's all anyone talks about up here. it's so great. oh and i really want to go to the michigan game, anyone else down for a roadtrip? but yeah, last night was a lot of fun. we went to a lot of bars. oh yeah, i like beer now, it's a lot cheaper and a lot nicer. but i went with my cousin and we both got drunk quickly and he was paying for everything and we went to a country bar (ugh) and he ordered three beers (one for him, myself, and this guy named michael) and then six jagerbombs which i haven't done since THAT NIGHT. well michael doesn't drink jagerbombs so that left six for jason and me to split. long story short, it's 11:30 and i'm still drunk and currently miserable while sitting next to my grandparents and watching turner classic movies. oh and saturday night jason and i went to a karoke bar. i wouldn't go up to sing, but jason did and he was amazing. looking back, i shouldn't have been surprised because he's always been kind of an entertainer and would randomly break out into song when we were younger. and monday night we went to my cousin, addison's, baseball game. he was really good and pitched the whole game and hit a home run. he's 14 and is already six foot four. he's huge. it's so weird to see him and natalie stand side by side because they're the same age and she's only barely five feet tall. it's also nice to see all the parents at the baseball game and how involved they are with their kid's sports lives. i hope i'm like that. i'm sure i will be.

so yeah, insanely long update, but june has been just one of the best months of my life.

can't wait to get up to boone though!!

oh and i FINALLY got a new cell phone so i'm back to the old 919-724-2081 number.

hasta pasta.
