So i'm casually observing the live radar update on my pc, and i'm like 'Hm, Joplin is getting hammered!' 'Doop de dooo dooo,, la la la'. And then I'm like 'Oh, look! A Tornado Warning Doesn't apply to me though. Doop dee dooo, la la laaaaa!!!' So then I flip on my radio and monitor NOAA. **ALERT TONE** TORNADO WARNING!!! If you are on I-44 between MM 88 and 95, You Are Supremely Fucked! Seek Shelter Immediately! then I'm like, 'Oh, wow! A Tornado Warning That Applies to My Direct Vicinity! So I open the curtains a bit and take a peek outside, and the sky is fucking Olive Green. And that's when I say, "This ain't good. This ain't good at all." So I don my trusty raincoat, and crouch-walk inside like some kind of special-ops commando, struggling against the 80 mph gusting wind in an epic fashion. I make it inside. It takes me about 15 minutes to catch my breath and let go of the strong adrenaline rush that began the moment when I observed the unnatural hue of the sky, and ended when I breached the door of the sheltered establishment. Management hears something on NOAA, and herds everyone into a frightened mass in the interior-most nexus of the building. The power goes out, there's a bit of rumbling, but eventually, everything seems to be calming down. The wind doesn't let up for a while, though, and I am not alone in hanging around in the store after the tornado warning had expired for the immediate area. And then I realize, I can't buy anything, because the power is out. Which means I can't eat or drink anything. :-( But everything calms down in a little while, the sky turns a usual shade of gray again, and I suit up in my raincoat, and book it back to the truck about an hour after my initial concerns materialized.
Why am I so afraid of death?
I tell myself I'm not, but if that were true, I wouldn't get a superhuman burst of strength, speed, and agility when I felt like I might need it.
Would I?
