I've still been plagued by the nothing mood though it goes up and down at times, I still have to get on with stuff so that's what I've been doing. Currently a snapshop of my visage from three years ago is being mocked on a particular forum, which is a little annoying, but them's the breaks.
Still buying stuff, still way behind on giving it a fair listen so no reviews, this week it's been the new Yo La Tengo and that Grizzly Bear thing.
I finally got around to finishing up BSG last weekend which was pretty good. It certainly knocked the late 70s version into a cocked hat, however nostalgic people got about it. (It was a kids show!) The way it all tied up in the last part was curious in a way (which of course was much debated back when it aired), but on the other hand at least it got the chance to tie up instead of being cut.
It probably doesn't withstand repeat binge-viewing as much as, say, The Wire (which is the next thing I've got to finish - up to the end of Season 3 so far) but it was still a really good series, largely because of the acting and the relative lack of cheese. I loved Babylon 5 too but sometimes even it got a bit corny (though that improved when they changed captains and shit got real :) ) - to put it in perspective it was over ten years ago though and it also forced the Trek franchise to harden things up with DS9, which they then fumbled with the next two "franchises" - "THERE'S COFFEE IN THAT NEBULA". Not much of a surprise that Ronald Moore had a lot to do with DS9 as well.
But anyway. Enough pop-SF fandom bullshit.
I've got an interview next week for something a bit different, so I'll see how that goes - I can't say my chances are that hot - I'm hoping that the other stuff such as the quals etc will make up for the lack of experience in that area, but hell, it's an interview. It'll be interesting either way. I'll know more this time next week.
The Antlerland stuff's progressing decently, though as usual the problem is I've got about 3 or 4 different sets of stuff - up until last week I was working on tracking in the song-based stuff, but that's been shelved for a little while, so this week I've started to cobble together what is likely to be the next new release. There is actually some new stuff amongst it - some really nice ideas coming out of the woodwork - but also some older stuff that I'm re-arranging to fit. Who knows how long it'll take, since I've yet to complete a rough sketch of the big picture (I'm probably about halfway there) before I can properly flesh out the details.
Basically I'm going for the old two parts of twenty-odd-minute pieces format, though it'll be split up - I'm working on each 3-4 minute section with a view to having a decent flow through each side. I don't really have a name for the whole thing yet, once again the long-time working title doesn't suit so much any more so I'll be letting a new one percolate out of the back of my mind.
And of course of on top of all that there's still the "archives" stuff to get through, with the WORST OF, The Final Resting Place Of Coco - songs that have their merits but I don't particularly rate for whatever reason - and BEST OF sets slowly being remixed and compiled. I hope to also have at least one volume of this out over the next few months as well.
How much of this I get done and organised before the summer really kicks in depends on other things, as always.
