new poem

I can’t help but like you,
And yet I know its so cliché.
You have a pretty face and a perfect smile,
But telling you would never be probable.
Subtle away messages with lyrics just won’t do,
Yet “if I say who I know,
It just goes to show,
You need me less than I need you”
Is still what I leave for you.
The casual group invites never seem to work,
Now I see that sprained ankles had one perk.
I got to spend many hours with you,
While the rest of the cast was on ‘Fiddler Review’.
I was sitting in the auditorium with 3 bags of ice
When you came over, just to be nice.
We spent the nights sitting next to each other,
And I got to liking you a lot more than any other.
You’re such a great guy; you let me play with your curly hair,
And after we finished a paper you promised me rides everywhere.
Everywhere included some dinner and a bunch of cast parties,
And even a try at Cold Stone before we went to the Burdeys’.
We listened to Fall Out Boy while you claimed you went the wrong way,
“Tonight the headphones will deliver you the words I cannot say.”
I’ve asked the girls what I should do,
And all I’m told is “Just be YOU”
I’ve tried so hard to just be me,
But I’m afraid there’s someone else you’d want me to be.
All I’m asking is that you say it’s not true,
‘Cause the only one I want to be with is you.
I hope that if you come out just one night with me,
You’ll see that I’m just the girl that you need.
Don’t be discouraged. Don’t say no.
Please come now before you have to go.
