Man, Atlanta got rocked with quite a unique storm this past Sunday. Not only did it drop 3-5 inches of snow, but it also got pummelled with way below average temperatures. That means ice, and tons of it, on the majority of street, highways, and interstates in the metro area. And since metro Atlanta is never equipped to resolve snow isses that periodically occur, most of the city had been shut down. Various parts of the major interstates and other major roads were closed and many businesses shut down early (if not completely closed) It got so bad that I worked from home from Monday through Wednesday, and it took me over an hour to get to work on Wednesday, and I don't even take a highway to get to work. But what do you expect when they only have 12 snow plows and salt trucks in all of metro Atlanta? You guessed it, a big mess that looks more like FEMA in New Orleans. But on the bright side, at least the DOT employees got paid well this week.
But it finally seems that Atlanta is getting back into the swing of things. The ice on the roads have begun to clear. But the least thing that Atlanta can do in the future is partnership with neighboring states. They knew this storm was coming for a few days beforehand, so better plannning may be in order next time.
