But Aggressive Alpha types are soooo aggravating, and this goes for male AND female. There is nothing wrong with aggressively wanting to be right if it's a worthy cause, like protecting children, but if you don't like fiction character A, DON'T go to a character A picspam post in a character A forum and rain on A-fans! Then repeatedly 'give permission' for character A fans to have their opinions, right after telling us that we are wrong, "that's your opinion, it's not canon, but you have a right to your opinion!".
This was the same person who repeatedly namefagged at the kink meme, and signed - UserName too, in conjunction with using an icon that says "my fandom's mom can beat up your fandom", yeah, your fandom's mom is Lori Drew. (and unrelated to this dispute, or more appropriately, this littering of a Twilight novel in the Literature section of the library, I never liked it when people use mothers in insult.)
Just rubs me the wrong way.
I think character bashing should actually be allowed in main comms IF you warn for it, an example would be Gwen Cooper in Torchwood, the opinion is divided. I hate her, and I think that opinion should be allow to be voiced, for browsing executives trying go gauge fandom reaction...but it should be labelled clearly and not sneaked in fanfic format without warning (especially in Ron the Death Eater butchering, Gwen was a selfish womanchild but she means for things to turn out well, first for her, but THEN ALSO for everyone else, she'll be the girl who'll steal your boyfriend, but then sincerely hope that you will be happy with the other guy she set you up with - it's a clear butcher-fic if you have her torturing someone as an evil alien). What I was absolutely clear about, and NEVER did, was to go into a Gwen community and bother the Gwen fans.
...and geez, part of the reason I made that post, in addition to how much I heart character A, is the disturbing find that when I went to 5-6 personal LJs of Gideon fans looking for moar fic, I found that 3 of them left off with a personal post about their struggle with depression, yikes!
ETA: ...and let me summarize the point of my anger. Middle of me explaining why me (and probably other A fans in the A community), seeing his aloofness and running off not as indicators that he's a douche but that he was struggling with depression and PTSD, citing some personal experience as to why his character (and his actor too, who quit because of disagreement over direction AND personal health issue) resonate with us so much, Aggro Narcissist responded with "With all due respect to your feelings and experiences, none of that makes your hypothesis that A-bashing is "half sour grapes and half backlash against the initial B-bashing" true or anything but a gross dismissal of an opinion you don't like.".
Are you fucking kidding me? Her being right over her opinion of a fictional character is more important than what it means to real people struggling in crap. Srsly, I have no belief in god (though I use religious lingo a lot because it's cool), but I will NEVER tell people that "you know god don't exist right" when they are at a funeral or the hospital. There is this thing called Empathy.
