Liking the bad guy versus condoning the bad guy
I can't believe that there are people who not only like Kate Freelander, BUT, there was actually an argument on Syfy justifying her kidnapping and selling of Martin Wood as business is business! If this person was rational, I would say we need to exile him to a forgotten island before pedobear hires him.
Okay, let's remember Methos from Highlander. Methos was the Retired Monster played by Peter Wingfield, and is therefore, very very charming, so on irrational likability, Methos > Kate, because compared to Emile, Agam just isn't it. Methos was never the hero, he favours run and hide. Still, Methos was really charming, what's the harm in LIKING him?
Then came the horsemen arc, and it was revealed by Cassandra that Methos was one of the horsemen, specifically, she who was there, who was one of his victims, reveals Methos as having committed rape and murder alongside his brothers!
In the flashback, we actually see Methos sexually threatening Cassandra, and Methos said he'll kill her as many times as it will take to tame her.
If this was a bedroom GAME, that sounds hot, but in universe, this was Methos committing an atrocity, no matter how cute he is, she said NO.
There is this beautiful Methos and Cassandra fic out there, Black Sand, written by Jeannie Rose, where Methos lets Cassandra kill him again and again while she works out her lingering nightmares of having been his slave, and him working both his guilt and his grief over the lost of Alexa. That's the way to deal with it.
Then, I'm not going to link, especially since there is more than one, then, there are fics out there, usually Duncan/Methos fics, where Cassandra is portrayed as the evil bitch who overreacts by killing or maiming Methos. Okay, she can look mean if she was realllly cruel to him, but um, overreacting? Dude, Methos killed her people and raped her! I don't care how likable Methos is (and he is), if Cassandra does set forth to kill him horribly, all I can say is, "you go girlfriend", even though I'll like Methos to live, because in the words of Budd from Kill Bill: "That woman deserves her revenge".
