I really have no legal advice for you. And since I've always stood and repeated the Pledge, I have no cases of abuse to share. But here are my 2cents anyway.

I'm guessing the teacher was Mr. Morris? He was the (I think) navy and is very patriotic. I remember him throwing a fit when someone talked during the Pledge... But I don't think anyone should be talking during the pledge either. It is about respect. No matter if you care about the words or not, you are still a member of the country. The army and navy and air force are still fighting and dying to maintain rights. The lack of respect the Pledge gets in EBHS always used to bother me.

That said , you didn't disrespect it at all. You stayed silent, you weren't creating a distraction for others. You were totally within your rights and the teacher was out of line to abuse you to the point where you would be in tears.

I also thought that the law was that you had to silently stand but repeating the words and placing your hand over your heart was the optional part. It was an EB teacher that told me that. Clearly, they have no idea what they are saying and need to get there act together. If they did, this never would have had to happen since they would have realized you were within your rights.
