General Update

Oct 24, 2006 02:08

Wow! It's been a while since I last updated. Since it's been so long since I updated and I can't remember what all has happened, I will list the different things in random order as I recall what has been happening during the past month.

1. Last Tuesday (10/17/06) my mom had lump (almost golf-ball sized) removed from her forehead. The doctor has diagnosed it is a lymphoma. Results will be given to my mom tomorrow that determine whether the lymphoma is cancerous or noncancerous. The majority of all lymphomas are cancerous.

2. Last Tuesday (10/17/06) my grandmother (my dad's mom) had a spot biopsied on her liver. During the procedure, she had a stroke. The medical staff caring for her during the biopsy did not detect anything to be wrong with her until she began coming off the anesthesia. She ended up in ICU, but has been in a regular hospital room since this past Saturday. Today she was able to recognize my dad and spoke his name clearly, but her speaking is generally incoherent. Please pray that she will continue to improve and will receive the occupational, speech, and physical therapies she needs to live in an assisted living facility or with one of her sons.

3. Last weekend (10/18-21/06) I attended the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference at Rock Eagle. 2,014 math teachers of various grades from around Georgia attended the conference. The conference was a great learning experience for me and was a lot of fun on top of that. I ended up sitting through 18 different lectures/seminars across 2.5 days.

4. A pregnant woman driving an SUV backed into the front end of Mimi. The hood of the car was bent, the front bumper appears to only be slightly damaged, and the front driver-side running light was damaged. The car will go in for repairs sometime during the next week.

5. My sister has changed jobs and is now working in a preschool teaching children ages 3 years to 5 years.

6. I began my Christmas shopping and introduced Penny to the joys of IKEA.

7. I am working entirely too much planning lessons, grading papers, and handling the incidentals of my new job.

8. The stress that I have been operating under has finally caught up with me and I've gained 5 pounds in the past two weeks. :(

9. Regardless of how much work I have to do, I will be returning to the gym this week before those 5 lbs become 10 lbs.

10. Tonight we turned the heat on in our house for the first time this fall.

11. I'm really enjoying studying the book of Romans with my fellow Bible Study Fellowship members. We are taking nearly 8 months to complete an in depth study of the book of Romans. The really neat thing about BSF International is that women (and men) on every continent except for Antarctica gather together on a weekly basis to study the same scriptures. The website for the organization is http://www.bsfinternational.org.

12. My dad celebrated his 60th birthday on the 9th of October.

I know I've forgotten a lot of different things that have happened to me or to others whom I know, but these are the things at the forefront of my mind tonight.

misc, grandma, mom
