Navy considering allowing chaplains to perform same-sex marriages, on base

In news that is somewhat surprising, the U.S. Navy is drafting a plan that would allow Navy chaplains to perform same-sex marriage, on base, in accordance with local law and the chaplain's religious organization.

With the repeal of DADT being finalized, the move has angered some in Congress, who point out that a federal department shouldn't be recognizing something that federal law (the Defense of Marriage Act) explicitly denies recognition to. 63 members of Congress signed a letter calling on the Secretary of the Navy to be the kibosh on the plan.
