I know it's turned into a running joke about how quick I am to nag people to properly tag their posts. A good many of you have seen my "
Please remember to tag your posts. :)" nudge, and most people are good about fixing it, or remembering in the future.
However, I don't think we've ever really discussed the tagging policy since it was instituted several years ago (at members' behest). So I'm curious what your opinions are on it.
- Is tagging a good, worthwhile way to organize things, or a waste of time? Do you ever use them or find them handy?
- What do you think about our current list of tags? Too many, or too few? Do you have any ideas for new tags, or ideas for removing any that are redundant or rarely used? Are they easy to navigate? (For example, I recently added "music" and "students' rights" and removed "school" and "united states", and reorganized our "polls" tags and created a separate "membership surveys" tag)
- Any other thoughts?
Personally, I get a lot of use out of tags. The organization of them helps me keep track of things, reduce redundancy in posts made (whether it's news articles, or promotions of other communities or events), and easily access things I may want or need to reference. But, I don't know how useful it is for everyone else, and I'm genuinely curious what you all think about it.
