After some depressing posts yesterday, I thought I'd share some good news:
A couple of years ago, New Jersey's Supreme Court ruled that the state had to provide equal partnership rights for gays, but didn't require gay marriage itself. The state chose civil unions instead, although they've seen that this isn't adequate and even the governor has indicated that he supports legalizing gay marriage. Which has led some to call for a constitutional amendment.
A new poll has found that
50% of voters support same-sex marriage (and oppose an amendment, and 40% oppose gay marriage (and support such an amendment). Obviously, we learned from Prop 8 that polls don't mean much, but it still seems like a step in the right direction.
