Parents' response key to health of gay youth

It may seem like common sense, but a new study has found that parental reaction to a kid coming out is very important to their mental health. Depression (6x more likely), drug abuse (3x), and attempting suicide (8x) are much more likely if the parents react negatively.

I also thought this was interesting, although its something many of us have experienced first hand:

"Consistent with other studies, the youths in Ryan's study were on average younger than 11 when they first experienced a same-sex attraction, were just over 14 when they realized they were gay and came out to their families before they had turned 16."
