Hi, I hope this is ok by the rules (I did read them but if it's not acceptable then please delete) but I wanted to advertise my new community, gay_dad. It's a community for the children of gay parents, so if there are any of those here, then please join, it's lonely over there at present! Thanks x

It's a relevant community, so a one-time promotion is within the rules.

Good luck. Although I'm not sure how many gay fathers we have.

What about the children of lesbian parents?

Okay, thank you. Even reading the community info, I was unclear on that part.

If you want people with LBT parents and not just gay fathers, you shouldnt call your group "gay dad." My policy as a bi person is to never join anything that excludes me in it's name. I had a bi mom and my son has me but neither of us would join a gay dad group. My suggestion is to change to an inclusive name using LGBT or queer.

well it's not exclusive by nature, it's a name, I thought it was quite quirky, and a little bit amusing (ever hear of the band?), but maybe that's british humour for you.

I'm from the US and never heard of them before. Maybe I'd feel differently if I was from the UK and more familiar. I've just had it up to here with LGBT orgs that dont put B or T in their name. And it's easier to start with an inclusive name than to change it later, after you've become established.

well without trying to be offensive, I am not lgbt so I guess I don't 'get' the whole exclusion vibe you're feeling. let's face it, this is livejournal, where tongues meet cheeks. without trying to sound like I don't want the community to be inclusive, I simply think it's a better name than lgbtspawnoftheworld or similar. that's all :)
