Whosoever, be he worthy, that can pick up the threads of ten previous films and foreshadow the next ten films while still managing to present some kind of a story in the film he's actually making, he shall be the rightful king of Hollywood.
So we went to see Age of Ultron
Mild spoilers but nothing specific or good one-liners
CUT
We had a great time. Fun family action movie worth paying extra for the VIP seats and the extra large hot dog. Probably more enjoyable with a ten year old who's almost bursting (literally I suspect) with excitement as you head out of the house. Is it as good as Winter Soldier or Guardians? No.
It wasn't really much of an "age", more like a hectic fortnight. Whe the DVD comes out we'll buy it, but we won't watch it again as many times as some of the others and I can imagine a bit of scene-hopping.
The focus on Hawkeye has been questioned in mainstream reviews but I'm fine with that. Gods, billionaires, supersoldiers or angsty spies who have had the humanity trained out of them are not the view point characters that can carry the story, what's needed is the ordinary person (who just happens to have the character to hang on at this level of danger) who finds themself amidst such a remarkable crew. That's how you keep it grounded. It's how Whedon did it in Buffy, and it's how he's doing it here. I submit that Hawkeye is the new Xander.
Looking at Quicksilver's action scenes, I think that, just like in Days of Future Past, that's some awfully expensive and time-consuming work, more so than many of the other characters which - among other reasons - is why he's not been seen more in any of the franchises.
