Fannish speculation

During my recent travels, I observed and thought a lot about how commercial air travel is pretty much awful for anyone who can't walk longish distances and/or who needs to carry take large items wherever they go. While I was away, I also got to get a much more up-close, on-the-ground look at how difficult it is to get a person with mobility issues and the necessary equipment into a very typically-built car. Naturally, because I am a huge nerd, I later connected this to ATLA.

Basically, I am now really curious about the future development of transportation technology in the avatarverse. Considering who is inventing a lot of the early examples, it makes sense for the field to develop in such a way that future transportation options would, on the whole, be much more accessible to people who can't go any part of the way on foot-- certainly as passengers and probably as drivers/pilots too. I'm wondering what that's going to look like later on. Wide doorways and places to secure wheelchairs would be standard on mass transportation from the very beginning. I imagine a lot of vehicles that are operated with hands only-- maybe the concept of controlling your speed with pedals wouldn't even be a thing that people consider for a century or two. Would cars resembling the ones that could easily be mistaken for the dominant lifeform in the US-- even exist?
