2012 fic round-up

Dec 30, 2012 01:34

Posting this now because I doubt anything else is getting done this year.  Unless I go catch the Alternate Reality ones I missed....  (And now that this post is done, I might just.  Eh.  I'll repost Jan 1 if I have to.)

January: "Do Not Meddle In The Affairs of Demons," (not on AO3; I need to fix that next month during the site/archive updates) -- Buffy/Highlander short piece for the Alternate Realities meme.

"A Slayer's Work Is Never Done," or AO3 version -- Buffy/due South, for the Canadian Shack anniversary challenge.  Buffy, Bob Fraser, and coping with wendigos.  God, that was FUN to write. (One of my best-received, too, to judge by the kudos at AO3.)
April: "Homemade Brandy & Accidental Hijackings," or AO3 version -- Highlander Aidan-verse.  Family gossip and weirdness from living in the South.

May: "Nalyevo," or AO3 version -- X-Files/Marvel Movies universe.  Other people saw the movies and wrote Avengers fic.  I write Winter Soldier instead.  I would just like to say, for the record, what the HELL, brain?  But hey, I got to abuse Cigarette-Smoking Man.  Life can be good.

June: "Thistle & Shamrock," or AO3 version -- Highlander, Aidan-verse. An AU of my AU, to my vast surprise.  Didn't happen this way, can't happen this way, and no idea what I was thinking.  And at that, raine had to tell me that yes, really, I wrote this, not her.  Oops?

August:  "Pen & Ink," or AO3 version -- Highlander, an AU that breaks off in the middle of "End of Innocence."  Rich Ryan, an immortal tattoo artist & healer named Iris Kaulike, and the reasons Rich needs a healer.  Written for the
hl_chronicles  Timestamp challenge and damn it, now I have to write a novella to finish up this series, too....  Many thanks again to
mischief for the artwork!

September.: "The Rest Is Silence," or AO3 version -- X-Files, a Lyric Wheel Redshirt challenge piece that I hadn't realized was actually finished already...

October: "Mismatched Pieces," or AO3 version -- Highlander, Opportunities-verse, and crossed with Marvel's movie universe.  Duncan and Matthew heading out drinking -- until they run into the Winter Soldier on a job.

"Sticks and Stones," or AO3 version -- Highlander, Opportunities-verse.  Our heroes, having turned (very successfully) to a life of crime... now have to put something *back*.  Written for
hl_chronicles Timestamp challenge, and whee!  I timestamped a vid!

"Along the Fault Lines," or AO3 version -- Highlander, Duncan MacLeod/Matthew McCormick, and a stealth Sacketts crossover.  Written for Killa who wanted something for 'sharing a bed,' and as a 20 Years, the Immortal Perspective piece for
hl_chronicles .  Now I just need to finish my reboot piece and I'll have written for all three challenges...

"Hung From the Tree," or AO3 version -- Captain America.  1,000 words of Norse edda-style poetry about the Red Skull.  No, I have no idea what I was on, but it did seem to fit well with
spook_me .

I think that's everything for the year, anyway.  Among other things, this tells me I've got to settle down into more of a routine of writing, damn it.  And go back through my files periodically to see what's done, not just waiting for me to figure out what else it needs. But... not bad for a year that includes co-brainstorming and then co-modding a challenge community (HL-Chronicles) and spending part of the summer playing medical taxi for a friend who had a knee replacement.   Hmm.   Looked at that way, I have gotten more done than it felt like at the time.

Regardless, since October, I've written 4,000 words or more on the next Southern Comfort fic, 3,000 on the next Opportunities-verse, 2,000 each on about 3 others, plus 2,000 on 3 tries at a fic for some
pentapus  art, and gods know what else.  Things are getting written, just... in rotation, you know?  These, too, shall be finished one day.  Soon, please, gods. (Also, if anyone wants a Kronos-muse, I don't really *want* to finish Plus Ca Change....)

Oh.  And for anyone who catches this post and missed earlier notices, the first, oh, 75% of the Aidan-verse stories have gone up on AO3 and are thus downloadable for e readers.  (Scroll down; it's broken into 5 series)  I'm through Sirocco and Currents and some of the post-stories.  Still need to add all the standalone stuff.  Whoof!  Okay.  Off to sleep, and write some more, and try to finish *something* this month...
