Friday fic, some of it in fandoms I don't even watch...

Dec 03, 2011 19:21

Yeah, I know. But if a summary sounds interesting, or the story's recommended by someone I trust, I'll try it anyway. Sometimes I then get dragged into the fandom (waves happily at due South), sometimes I just get fun stuff to read. Here, have some reading matter. There'll be less for the next few weeks, by the way: I'm trying to get a story out each week this month. We'll see how that works.

Art: The last paper sculptures have shown up in Edinburgh. How do we know? The last few tags were numbered, and they've now found all ten of ten. Lovely art, well worth looking at and admiring.  Check out the Flickr set they link to; great pictures of the paper sculptures.  (And an alternate link, courtesy of
copperbadge .)

Avengers (movie): Bro-hood and Other Drugs, by
Lunik . Summary: Plenty of people get themselves blackout drunk and wake up with an unexpected husband. It's embarrassing but it happens. Natasha is trying to figure out how she could have woken up with an unexpected brother.  (I can't quite believe this when I'm not reading it, but it's a lot of fun.)

Avengers (movie): Getting Your Betty Crocker On, by
thehoyden . Summary: He knows it’s not wartime anymore, but he can’t quite suppress the twinge of guilt he feels at measuring out two entire cups of white sugar.

Avengers (movie): I Stole The Keys To This Guy, by
kellifer_fic . Summary: Where it was Nick Fury's idea, but he didn't mean it like that. (Sometimes, one should be careful what one asks for.)

Avengers (movie): Ready, Fire, Aim, by
gyzym . Summary: There's no "I" in "Avenger." (Glorious, snarky Tony POV. And yeah. That title is so completely in the right order for this fic.)

Avengers (movie): These Three Things Remain, by
Siria . Summary: His mom does what she can, but it's never quite enough. (Steve and his past, and the Avengers and Steve's new present, and Tony and Steve's future. It made me smile at the screen a lot, sometimes while still sniffling.)

Captain America (movie): I’ve been in your body and it was a carnival ride, by postcardmystery . Summary: Steve Rogers with a tattoo. (Steve/Bucky, and Cap/Winter Soldier, and I have no idea what else. Damn good fic, though.)

Doctor Who/Sherlock (BBC): The Extraordinary Tale of the Achronological Detective by oneiriad . Summary: People keep stealing John's phone. Of course, that's the least of it…

Leverage/Warehouse 13: The Warehouse 13 Job, by hannasus . Summary: The Leverage crew crosses paths with a pair of very unusual Secret Service agents.

M*A*S*H: These Are The Days Of Miracle And Wonder, by
raven . Summary: Gen, Hawkeye & the whole ensemble. We are all fighting our wars. (Left me crying and smiling. Lovely.)

Merlin: Not In This Land Alone, by
Torakowalski . Summary: Modern AU. When Merlin Emrys gets a summer job at Buckingham Palace, he doesn't expect to even meet King Arthur, let alone become involved in protecting him from a plot to overthrow the monarchy. (Again, it's not a show I'm watching, but I had fun with this AU. I've decided my brain just likes fun. I have no other explanation.)

Parasol Protectorate (books): Corps-A-Corps, by
Violet_quill . Summary: Lyall helps Biffy explore something new about himself during a fencing bout. NB:  Spoilers for all the books, I think. (Four people told me I should read these books. They were all right. These books are a blast, and stories from them are going to be all over Yuletide this year, I think.)

Suits: Grande Soy Triple Dirty Chai, by
Friskaz . Summary: Every fandom needs a barista au. Original prompt on the kink meme: " Harvey is (still) a lawyer. Mike is the only barista that gets his coffee order right, and isn't afraid of a bit of intelligent and snarky banter."

Suits: Pizza And A Movie, by
Closer . Summary: In an alternate universe, Harvey's still a lawyer but Mike's not a pot runner -- he's a deliveryman for Rollo's Pizza and Ribs, which happens to be Harvey's favorite pizza place. Once Harvey finds out his pizza guy is a genius, Mike's life takes a few turns he would not have expected... If you like this one, there are two more in the 'series' covering roughly the same events from different POVs; they're also fun. (I'm not even watching Suits, despite Gina Torres, because the concept drives me crazy. But I seem to be loving the AUs. Who knew?)

White Collar: A Family Trait, by
teaotter . Summary: It’s hardly the strangest thing Neal has done since going to work for the Bureau of Paranormal Investigations.

White Collar: If You're Gone, by
Sahiya . Summary: What do you do when the people who've become your Pole Star move three thousand miles away? Neal Caffrey is about to find out. (Lovely AU set about halfway through 2nd season.)
