Writing meme, day 14 -- Ratings. Also, someone else's plot bunny.

14 -- Ratings - how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?

I've written everything from NC-17 to G, and I've rated them R & NC-17 for graphic violence as well as explicit sex.  I don't think it's a matter of comfort: I think it's a matter of what the story calls for.  Some of them get really dark and intense (Devil's OwnSirocco, Memento (Mori)), some of them are light and fun (Not In My Bar, Not Heated, Fire In The Hole), and one I should have rated PG despite the insults, innuendo, and accidental full-frontal nudity (Split Hide).  But none of the ratings bother me overmuch.  Well, okay, the more violent stuff gives me nightmares sometimes while I'm working it out, but sometimes it purges them, too.  Pays your money, takes your chances.

As for the plot bunny.  The Mary Sue is doing an article on the 10 greatest Nazi fighters of all time, in honor of Captain America coming out tonight/tomorrow, I assume, and at number 6 they have a lovely movie I'd forgotten and a great crossover plot bunny.  Surely someone out there can cross Bedknobs & Broomsticks with Harry Potter?
