Interestingly, the grammar rules at
Purdue Online Writing Lab say that the proper possessive form of James is James's. Except that when I was in school, I was taught that if a noun ends in an s or z sound, the correct form was to put an apostrophe after the s/z, as you do with a plural noun. As you might expect, I'm at the point where neither Ramirez' nor Ramirez's looks right because I've been staring too long. Advice, help, sources...?
