Yay, we voted!

Oct 30, 2008 20:12

But good Lord. At 8:10 yesterday morning, (and the early voting polls opened at 8), the line was 1.25 hours long. At 3:30 today, last day of early voting, it was 3 hours when we got in it. When we left, the line extended even farther down the sidewalk than it had. I kept Dragon company in line to vote today, since he was working in Nashville ( Read more... )

Youch! My condolences! Does your state not require your company to give you two hours off to vote? And early voting has become more and more common throughout the parts of TN I've lived in, and rumor in the line had it that the early voting turnout so far in Memphis already exceeded total voting in '04's election in Memphis.

Youch, MO doesn't do early voting? (And I had no idea you were that close, either!) I hope like hell we don't have riots anywhere. {{hugs}} and go you on getting up at 5 to go vote!

Huzzah! I always vote on the big day - something about the ritual of it all I just love. So many people here vote by mail there never seems to be a line at my polling place.

I'm either going to be home the night of the 4th popping that really good bottle of champagne I've been hoarding, or downing shots and planning the revolution.... (to start Thursday, because Wednesday's hangover is gonna be a *bitch* if McCain wins....)

{{hugs}} Yeah, I'm braced for Tuesday too -- and was shocked to find out liquor stores *are not open* on election day in my city!! I knew we had blue laws against Sundays, but Election Day? ::completely flabberghasted:: And I've been voting for 21 years now! Who knew!

This is only the second time I've voted early, but I have to admit, I kinda liked it. (Last time, I voted early because my sister's due date was the 4th, and she wanted me there for moral support.)

And hey, cool, I like your icon!!

I don't even know if we have early voting, but I agree with your commenter that I wait until election day because I like the ritual of it all. I'll vote on my way home Tuesday morning. And we live in such a small town, I doubt there will be a line worth mentioning.

::laughing:: I don't know if you do either, but you do get to vote separately for president and vice-president, which I must admit I kinda like. And this year, they've campaigned so long, I partly wanted to vote and be done (on my part). Love the icon!!

There was a line stretching out the door and around the church and into the parking lot at a polling place I pass on the way to the stables. It was that long and then some at 5:15 p.m. when I passed the place on my way home.

I've seen figures that say that over a million people have voted early in Tennessee and this was just counting through Tuesday. I just love seeing this many people energized by an election.

I've seen one article that says that in the 32 states that allow early voting, 25% of their registered voters have voted. To which I can only say day-um!

I voted on Monday and some charmer in line gave me a nasty, nasty cold! *pouts* But I went early because they were warning us that the lines on the 4th could be up to nine hours long. I only had to wait 1.5 so that wasn't too bad, except for the cold...

Sorry about the cold, dear! Yeah, they were encouraging everyone to vote early here, too. ::bemused:: They've had warnings, for months, of record turnout this year -- so why in hell didn't they get more voting machines/set up more early voting? Just *weird*. And Dragon came home from three days in Nashville with stomach flu. GAH. My complete sympathies! (Great icon!)
