I rarely post these days as my life is full and busy doing rather talking about what I do.
I do want to take the time to post as it settles my mind and centers me in general.
2009 has been an interesting year for my Hobby. I look at the thousands of hours of preparation, planning and hard work and wonder if I sell this entire venture short in regards to the fiduciary perks and compensation.
We completed a near flawless Academy, 85 new participants signed on and 48 made it through Academy to be part of our cast. Our cast is defined as Street, Support [pubs/gift shops etc] Stage Acts and Vendors. We have a cross-lateral morning meeting with all parties present, this breaks down to a smaller area group. Core cast are those that complete academy and this number is 163 participants. We had quite a few come out of retirement as well. It has been a great year of preparation and though no plan survives first contact, my troops understand the objective and will be a strong force.
We have added new acts to our stages this year including Willies Wenches, the Musical Blades [the first two weekends only], Cut, Thrust and Run… and others I’m sure I missed [these are the ones I brought in]
The other facets of my festival world are Vendor activity [Starfire Swords] and my Stage Show [Red Griffin/Chessmatch]. Starfire stock is in Muskogee, we will put the booth together Friday [working around a Murder Mystery Gig at noon] stock is plentiful and I have an exceptional range of weapons. My stage interest had a tremendous dress rehearsal in front of the remaining 130 cast members and it went very well, which is amazing as it was our first time with 100% of the cast in one spot. Those familiar with our work know that the script is funny, the fights energetic and the foundation is a real game of chess. We start at the end of January and work through, the show is ready and we rock, but next year I need to do some things to reduce stress.
This last weekend we have done some prep work and I dropped a lot of cash and labor on making our barracks more livable, we’ll see how that goes over.
I want to take this moment to spread the word about guest opportunities to my fellow performers at KCRF and Scarby [I know they are out after Memorial Day while we have one more]. Please email me at donryan@me.com . Both festivals have offered their streets for play to our cast and I would like to do the same. Costume is required [unless you speak to me or have spoken to me] morning meeting isn’t nor is parade, you may come and go as you like. I need to get you on a list, please insure you have picture ID as my gate keepers are good at their job. We would love to see you all. Please feel free to cross-post this last bit….
