Hey all.
Unfortunately, this post is going to be a depressing one, but it's very important that you all read it.
As some of you may already be aware, Stuart Hoy fell into a
diabetic coma as of last Monday night, the 14th. His condition was discovered by one of his flat mates the following morning, at which time he was promptly rushed to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he has remained in a comatose state ever since.
His brain has suffered extensive swelling, due to the prolonged period of time that it has been starved of glucose, which is an estimated twelve hours. His condition is serious, and unfortunately, there is a very real possibility that Stuart may either wake up with extensive brain damage, or simply not wake up at all.
Then again, there is also the possibility that Stuart may wake up and be relatively okay, so it's not as if there is absolutely no hope.
The reason I am posting this here is so I can address any questions people may have in a forum-like manner, and thus communicate all pertinent information efficiently. This in turn should alleviate some of the stress placed on Mara-Jean and Stuart's family, who have been dutifully SMS'ing people with the depressing news, whilst coping with their own grief at the same time.
In that regard, please feel free to send them your thoughts and well-wishes, but try to keep questions to a minimum, as it is very difficult - and unduly stressful - for them to respond to absolutely everyone. If there are any pressing questions, then please direct them here, and I will respond as soon as I can. This way, everyone will be updated with the same information.
I have posted this in conjunction with a mail out, which in turn, contains a link to this page. Please feel free to inform anyone else of Stuart's condition, and direct them here for more information.
Also, I understand many of you will not have Live Journal accounts, so please just remember to indicate who you are, if you're making an anonymous comment.
I will endeavor to update daily, and hopefully I will have some good news to report very soon.
