So Yeah....About Islamofacist Paranoia.....

So I'm at work tonight and I get this series of unidentified calls to my cellphone (850-443-5913).  Three times this number calls, three times I pick up, and three times the line is dead but does not terminate.  At this point I am intrigued.  I do a google search for the number.  It pulls up this website:

HANIF

HUMANITY ASSISTANCE NONPROFIT INCORPORATED FLORIDA

A TALLAHASSEE FLORIDA BASE NON-PROFIT CHARITABLE CORPORATION DEDICATED TO SERVICE THE COMMUNITY

Contact Information:

Email:         hanif@hanif_tohelp.org
Phone:       (850) 443-5913
Address:     P.O. Box 1369
                  Tallahassee
                   Florida
                   32302
                   USA

So several red flags.  First, that was the whole website.  No links.  No pictures save the green leaves in the background.  No description of what they do.  No media hits.  Bigger issues?  Who can put up a website but not master any dialectic of basic grammar? Who puts the country after Tallahassee, Florida?  Who does not list a physical address? Who picks an acronym that seems so obviously forced?

So being dumb I dug deeper.

I called the number back on the desk phone figuring that they will answer since they cant know that number.  I get a voicemail- "this is [unintelligible].  My phone is not working" then the message ends.

So I think back to the obviously forced acronym and do a wiki-run on it:

Ḥanīf (Arabic حنيف, plural ḥunafā' حنفاء) is an Arabic term that refers to pre-Islamic non-Jewish or non-Christian monotheists.[1] More specifically in Islamic thought it refers to the Arabs during the (pre-Islamic) period known as the Jāhiliyya or "Ignorance", who were seen to have rejected Shirk (polytheism) and retained some or all of the true tenets of the monotheist religion of Ibrahim (Abraham)[1] that, according to Islamic view, has preceded Judaism and Christianity....

Ḥanīf, capitalized, can also be a common Arabic proper name used for its more literary and poetic definition, "true believer" or "righteous one". The name is used throughout the Muslim world including non-Arabic speaking cultures.

So at this point as a product of our culture of fear I am a little frustrated, and kind of unsettled.  Especially since all my roomies are out of town.... I'm not my father, so I haven't called in DHS or notified SERT, but I don't know how comfortably I'm going to sleep tonight.  I generally understand Islam to be a religion of peace, but at the same time...there is just too much about this event tonight that was just too weird.
If you are board tonight give me a call, I could use the reassurance.

Just don't block the number.

I cant wait to get to Orlando...
