My Prediction For How S9 Will End

May 18, 2014 19:22

But first, 2 quick thoughts-

1. Christine Baranski as fem!Cain in genderswapped!SPN Y/Y?  WANT.  My other S8/S9 gender swaps include:
-Tricia Helfer as Gadreel (originally I was going to make her Bartholomew, but he didn’t last long enough to deserve Helfer)
-Martha Plimpton as Metatron
-Alan Tudyk as Abaddon
-Eric Stoltz as Naomi

2. I actually really miss Bobby.  I never thought I’d say that, but at least he wouldn’t be afraid to give Dean the kick in the ass he deserves.

A few weeks back I came up with a theory on how I thought this season might end, and then I of course added all the things I wanted to happen but never would (Bela, duh), plus some additional crack (mpreg!; no actual mpreg in this post, though, because it got too long).  It became an extremely involved headcanon.  The 4 people with whom I have shared the plausible part of the theory seemed to think it was creative and/or had merit (the lovely high schooler I made friends with at the con while waiting for the Sat night concert to start got all excited and high fived me, which tickled me pink), so on the slightest of slight chances that something remotely like it actually happens in the finale (I’m not holding my breath), I’m documenting it, for ~posterity.

(N.B: It’s entirely possibly that this is the prevailing theory in fandom; I haven’t heard it elsewhere and neither has anyone else I’ve talked to, but then, I actively try to avoid fandom proper, so I have no idea what the prevailing theories are.)

In a nutshell, Dean kills himself and unintentionally becomes the new king of hell because he dies while still bearing the Mark of Cain; the Mark makes him the most powerful demon, so the demons look to him as their new leader.

My original idea was: Dean contemplates killing himself because he is so depressed over Sam (rightfully) wanting to leave him, stop hunting, and live separately.  Dean thinks that Sam hates him for Gadreel and Kevin and will never forgive him (which, Sam being Sam, is not true, but Dean is so depressed and convinced of Absolutes in life that he can’t picture Sam ever forgiving him- Sam being furious with him now means Sam hating him Forever); Dean believes Sam would be better off without him (see that “I poison everything” line)- that everyone and everything would be better off if he just ceased to exist.  Dean scorns suicide as ~weak but would go through with it if his death had meaning; to provide that meaning, Dean offers Crowley a deal: his life (but not his soul) for Kevin’s resurrection.  Crowley agrees because he knows more about the Mark and realizes that Dean can’t die- he’ll just become a demon.  Crowley thinks he’s “tricking” Dean because in the end Hell will get Dean’s soul after all.  What Crowley doesn’t count on is the Mark making Dean way more powerful than Crowley could ever hope to be (that’s the only non-plausible part of this, I think, because Crowley would prooobably be savvy enough to cotton onto that fact).

I honestly thought there was a chance (still do) that Kevin could come back because the writers/producers would have to be living under a freaking rock to not realize how popular and beloved both Kevin and Osric are; I think it’s fair to say that Osric’s charisma- and the attendant devotion- is similar to Misha’s, albeit on a smaller scale, and we know how that worked out for Misha’s “stint” on the show.  So I would be overjoyed but not stunned if Kevin were brought back somehow, and Dean dealing with Crowley (who apparently is never going to die; seriously, in the last episode they didn’t even pretend to have a reason for why the boys let him live; Sam was just like, “And since we’re giving you a pass this time…”  What.  The.  Fuck.) after all they’ve ~been through this season and trading his life for Kevin’s really seems plausible to me.

However, the show has way scaled back on the Sam Is Rightfully Angry storyline, so I no longer think Dean would kill himself due to Sam “abandoning” him.  I think he’d kill himself because he finally recognizes that the Mark is turning him into a monster and despairs of ever being able to escape it any way other than death.  And he would still think that Sam would be better off without him.

I don’t reallllly think anything like this is going to happen in the finale (I think they’re going to do some horrible Cain/Abel story where Dean kills Sam, and then I will fling myself from a cliff, emotionally speaking), BUT! there is potential foreshadowing in the way Dean sneered about suicide in the penultimate episode.  He claimed he had never sunk that low (which, BULLSHIT, Dean Winchester, you who almost surrendered to Michael), so maybe the finale will see him eat his words.  Also, the promo shows him looking scared and talking to Crowley about the Mark, so he could turn to Crowley for a deal.

Anyway, that is my theory!  I would of course be happy if the Mark were removed and Dean went back to normal and sincerely apologized to Sam and cried about how awful he was and Sam forgave him and they were ~happy again (AND PIGS WILL FLY).  But barring that, I am super into the idea of Dean hitting rock bottom, deciding to end it all, and then winding up a demon.  Dean becoming King of Hell not through centuries of perversion in Hell but through a stupid mistake?  Yes, please, I am all for that.

I should note that as a demon, the Mark would not make him a dickbag assface like his now, btw; I am not all for Dean becoming King of Hell and actually turning evil.  I choose to fanwank it that the Mark is making him terrible because human souls are more malleable than demons’ and are too weak for its power, whereas if he were a demon, the Mark would strengthen him and increase his penchant for violence/brutality, but it wouldn’t warp his personality so much that he couldn’t control it.  I mean, Cain Lassie was certainly not the douchiest of douches like Dean is being.  I would totally have tea and crumpets with Lassie any day.

And when Dean woke up in Hell, disoriented and black-eyed, who would be there waiting for him, shocked by his appearance but always quick on the uptake and 100% willing to pull his strings?

Because every King needs a Queen.
