I dearly love this episode. I love how clever it is; you know how Sam and Dean talk at the beginning about which is more likely, their kind of trouble or someone erasing all evidence of the crime from the security tapes? Yeah. It was strictly coincidental that the case did actually involve their kind of trouble ( ... )

Have I mentioned I love people being competent at things? Yes.

Competence is really quite excellent. I much prefer that to shows where people win at life because of dumb luck and happy, contrived coincidences.

but she gets red-eyed and probably snotty, and she wears comfy pajamas.

I hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it, it is really refreshing to see someone fall apart in a realistic way. Shame she has to be a victim. :/

(Bizarrely, the actress appears again in a couple of seasons in a completely unrelated role.)

Like Kali Rocha! (sort of; Cecily and Halfrek are very badly and inexplicably related...) Or Luke/the Judge! Andrew/red shirt vampire!

S2 has been so amazing overall. It makes me incredibly happy to have these boys I really adore and so many seasons yet to watch.

S2 is fabulous. Some would argue that the show peaks in S2; at the very least, S2 is the best season for watching the show doing the kind of thing it's doing in S2. Later seasons also have very good things happening, but they are very different sorts of things.

Where are you in the season right now?

I've watched up through 2x10 "Hunted," the one where Gordon returns and we meet Ava. They episodes are good enough now that I'm watching a lot faster than I can write reviews. I think I've liked every episode so far except for "No Exit," which annoyed me in the same way "Skin" did.

Later seasons also have very good things happening, but they are very different sorts of things.

I'm actually dreading that a bit, tbh. I know eventually we're going to get into major world-building, pseudo-religious angel stuff, and I'm always leery of fiction that tries to define and use God. I really like the focus being on the brothers' relationship, and I don't want to lose that with demon-angel wars and stuff like that. Similarly, I'm interested in Castiel but don't really want him to stick around and draw the focus from the boys. :/

I adore Ava. Adore. She got to be so awesome, and in such a totally perky, girly way!

I know what you mean about watching faster than I can review. I'm not sure now whether I'll ever get around to reviewing the latter halves of S5 and S6. Oh, well.

I... have mixed feelings about the big pseudo-religious arc. On one hand, it introduces a number of very fun characters, and Sam in particular has an excellent arc. OTOH, the worldbuilding's nonsensical and liberally laced with elements lifted directly from my personal religious culture and then twisted until meaningless. I don't like it, in other words. *g*

I wouldn't worry too much about Castiel, though. He gets an episode or two that's mostly about him, but the show is fully aware that it's about Sam and Dean first and foremost and never lets Castiel be more than an intriguing secondary character.

I'm trying to decide if I'll be able to enjoy it more for knowing very little about Christianity, and I suspect I'll end up being frustrated, too, 'cause I won't know what is (loosely) based on actual Bible stuff and what is completely fabricated and it'll bug me trying to figure out the difference.

but the show is fully aware that it's about Sam and Dean first and foremost and never lets Castiel be more than an intriguing secondary character.

That is a relief! All the previews I've seen for the upcoming season (Internet ads and trailers on the CW that come on during Ringer) focus on Castiel and "In Cas we fear," and I'm 50% "Ahhh, spoilers! Mute the television!" and 50% "Where are my boys..."

Well, when you get there, you're welcome to ask about specific 'religious' elements if there's anything you're especially curious about. There is precious little actual Biblical material, just a lot of language getting thrown around for effect.

You know, I think I've given up on Ringer for now (after just the one ep; I keep meaning to watch the second one and just can't care enough), which among other things means I don't have to worry about spoilery SPN preview adds anymore. Honestly. You know how I am about spoilers; TV advertising is waaaay over my spoilerphobe threshold.

Thank you!

FWIW, the second episode is ten times better than the pilot, but I can completely understand not caring. Based on plot alone, it's not the kind of show I would watch at all if SMG weren't in it, and the characters have a long way to go to becoming "likable," instead of just "pretty-to-look-at."
