It appears that an introduction is required. My name is Minerva McGonagall. I have taught Transfiguration here at Hogwarts for more years than I care to remember, and have been Head of Gryffindor House for most of those years.

The Gryffindor children are the delight of my life and the cause of many sleepless nights. Gryffindor seems to attract the very best and very worst of children - brave, rash, loyal, careless. They rush headlong into danger, determined to right wrongs wherever they find them, yet are capable of the most bitter of sacrifices.

As Head of House, one does try not to have favourites, but that's always terribly difficult. I do have a soft spot for some of the current crop of Gryffindors. Neville Longbottom, who is growing into a fine young man and learning to overcome his fears. Harry Potter, so angry and hurt, but who can blame him? Hermione Granger, a delight to have in the classroom and her courage and loyalty are an example to all. Ronald and Ginny Weasley, stalwart members of a great wizarding family, Percy notwithstanding.

Ah, well, I've had my break. Time to leave the staff room and mark papers. You would think that some of these children had never heard of Transfiguration. Mr Finnigan, I fear your confidence in your abilities is somewhat misplaced. Perhaps too much time talking after 'lights out' and not enough time studying...
