After all that happened today, when I finally got back to my lovely, quiet, cool room where I don't have to walk, nor stand, anymore I fired up the daily Mainichi (...which is kinda like saying the daily daily, since mainichi means every day in addition to being a newspaper). I've been checking it off and on all summer, to get a feel of current events in Japan, so this is an easy habit to keep. I have the link on in the short shortcuts bar in firefox.
Glancing through the headlines, I saw an article titled "Schools start back after summer vacation Monday."
I read through it, then paused, feeling slightly surreal. Because this was an article that suddenly applied to me--not in a grand geo-politcal sense, but an every day, I am in Japan and attending school here sense. It was very strange--surreal--and really neat.
