My first southern cinema post :) Well... I've just finished watching Ayan starring Surya and Tamanna. Long story told short - it's about a "talented" smuggler :)
What can I say? Surya is obviously HOT and Tamanna lovely as well :) Acting wise both are fine too. These aren't their most demanding roles ever but they are both very natural and likable.
The plot wasn't groundbreaking but it had a few nice twists. An additional plus was that although the heroin didn't have a big role, she was shown as useful, brave and reasonable :)
The minus point was probably the bad guy. He was kinda cheesy :/
Also the second half was a bit draggy. The film would have been more exciting had it been 20-30 minutes shorter.
The songs were nice. The picturizations quite inventive. I'm linking to the two prettiest ones below. Unfortunately I didn't like the item song featuring Koeana Mitra. I actually like Koena in the song Saki Saki from Musafir (she looks pretty and dances well) but here he just looked tacky :( Overall a tasteless and unpleasant item number (that's why I'm not linking to it :P).
So is Ayan recommendable? For a Surya fan it's a must-see (of course he has plenty of more ambitious projects to his name but Ayan is a film to be enjoyed not analyzed). Other people can enjoy it as well - it's a well-rounded entertainer with interesting characters and an engaging plot. What's more, the action sequences are quite impressive (although based on some western movies) and the locations (Malaysia and Africa) are unusual and eye-catching :)
