This Christian life is a trying one. To be a good Christian (whatever that means… you know what I mean… let’s not get into semantics here) we need to rise up early in the morning to seek God, just as I must rise up early in the morning, (by 3am) in my effort to be a good teacher. And then there is perseverance: we must stay the course and pray for those who persecute us, just as I must resist the urge to hit students, give arbitrary F’s, or simply walk out of the class room. We must be patient and longsuffering, sort of like how I have to go to stupid meetings and play along, after classes are out. We have to be willing to step outside our comfort zone, which is similar to how I had to eat at Arby’s on my way home. Christians need to recognize that we may go through much trial in order to receive something truly wonderful, though we may perceive it to be small a reward, much the same as I had to suffer through flat root beer, cold curly fries, a spoiled chicken sandwich, and transactional difficulties in order to gain the Pearl of Jamocha Shake. A Christian must accept the fact that though it may be tempting to believe otherwise, good and evil can’t shake hands lest good become tainted, similar to how I tried to smoke a cigarette while drinking the aforementioned shake-the cigaretting became easier, while I absentmindedly inhaled the creamy Jamocha. The good became corrupted, while the evil became less disagreeable. And a Christian must never forget the call to be in the world, though not of it. Imagine hanging around a bunch of immature and impulsive children all day, the type who do and say everything that whatever comes to mind, the moment it comes to mind-and then imagine you are driving home and get pulled over by a cop. One must never be so imprudent as to hurl something, anything, the first item within reach at the foot of the offending officer as a display of disgust, even though he has been observing such behavior as a societal norm for the past 8 hours: every Christian must learn not to cast Pearls before Swine.
