From over in the Cubs group (
chicagocubs), there's a post containing a Sports Ilustrated story about how there are people that hate the Cubs. Now I know a few people that hate Cubs fans, but they're almost always from Boston, and the fans they point out *I* tend not to like either (usually lound, drunk, and disorderly (and probably 19), but they have a Cubs shirt on, so obviously they're the typical fan). I didn't get the whole Cubs hating thing until I saw
this reply.
It starts with, "You know why they hate us? Because we fill their stadiums and we're louder than their fans on their home games," and I couldn't agree more. The loudest I've ever heard an Atlanta sports crowd was Game 1 of the WildCard series when Cubbie blue dominated the scene and "Go Cubs Go" was heard from the crowd as much as The Chop though it never had a jumbotron indicating it was time to sing. The next day, the AJC had an article stating they've figured out how to add energy and vitality to Braves' crowds - give half the tickets to the other team's fans like they do in college football. This year, the Braves haven't drawn crowds particularly well (that is to say that most fans come disguised as empty seats). Guess which games I couldn't get tickets to - the three Cubs games.
So if you hate the Cubs, feel free to tell me why. I'll listen, though I wouldn't expect it to change MY opinion. I'd say there's pretty much one legit reason to hate the Cubs, and if that's mentioned (which I hardly think is likely), I'll gladly and solemly announce that person as correct.
