so..tired. and broke.
i bought mma gloves and shin/instep pads today. mike paid for his year of kickboxing. i still need knee and elbow pads that aren't hard shell.
i'm also a little sad at the vehemence with which a number of people i know are insisting that a half black president is not a big deal and how they don't get what all the fuss is about. it's a huge deal! i'm half asian and i totally identify with my asian-ness for one thing--being half white doesn't negate my mom's heritage and my mixed but distinct culture. and for another, hello! huge deal for people working in civil rights and race relations. as our pastor said once--his kids are half african american and half white--now he can truly tell his children that they can be anything. this isn't a political thing for me, either...completely setting politics aside, a minority president is historic no matter what people in the "privilege bubble" want to believe. barack obama in the white house doesn't solve all the problems but, seriously, it's a big step. how can people not see that? eh. that's kinda rhetorical. i know exactly how people can not see that.
