Mirror Mirror Highlights (as I recall them)
My brain was a sieve this event. Lots of running around, overtired, mind churning as I struggled to remember stories to tell. A mental exercise I have not had in ages, if ever. Very enjoyable event, though.
Highlights in no order:
Storytelling! That game has some fucking amazeballs storytellers, and some of the stories that came up were just eye-wateringly excellent. The variety, the inflection from folk as they told them...and the ones that came alive were awesome too. Never met a kappa before, and I hope never to again. Scary confident kappa gaze was very disarming, but I was pleased to knock the water off her head.
The shadow-wall, and the improvisation that Jimbob and Meishan did was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I wanted to run back there and help SO BAD. Also, sorry (not sorry) about the rocking horse. I saw that vaguely human-shaped blob down at the bottom of the screen and winced inwardly. But kept going.
The insane asylum was pretty fucking awesome, too. "Please solve one of the puzzles to escape." Welp, only have one, and it's a chain-and-hook clusterfuck, so GET COMFY THOUSAND ROADS. Fortunately Wyv came by and dropped another in my lap so I was able to get free. The huge inmate and the lanternkeeper were both awesome; don't get freaked out by crazy much, but that inmate had be fweeting like hell.
And the sound loop going in there was likewise really, really freaky. I can't wait to go back! Sort of.
Speaking with the Master of the Snowbound Temple. Oh thank Gawd another flipping Master. TEACH MEEEEE Very well played, calm, orderly, and he knows kung fu. Check THAT off the 1KR bucket list. Now to forge an alliance between the two schools...
The Order of the Ardent. Glad I was involved in that. Felt a little odd-man-out but that made it all the more important, I reckon. When they try and corrupt the Way, I'll be there to watch and laugh...and stab and stab and stab. Also, the idea of a totally virginal world, under that starry sky, gave me chills. An awesome module, an awesome idea. Guardian/Hearth here I come!
God DAMN it Meishan. Bloody novices, always turning into tigers and making their masters work their lungs to the bone. So dig this: out she comes, walking along, proud and strong. I see her coming, say, Oh, doesn't she look like less of a novice today, she'll make a fine master someday, etc. etc. And then she turns the corner and we see her feet and Hana-san says, But look at her little BOOOOOTS they're so cute! And I facepalm. Because novices.
The werewolf fight was pretty amazeballs. And insane. But a lot of fun.
Trixie! This can't POSSIBLY go wrong - it can only go right. Well. Until the ogre comes to marry her and sees she's already got someone on her arm. Whoops.
That's one big-ass spider outfit, there, Rob. YOU AND YOUR SPIDERS
Get your ass back here Crooked Flame, I'm not done with you! WHAT DID I JUST SAY
Talking with everyone. The Four, the Gypsy, the Phoenix, The Dog, The Dragoness, The Lioness, the Goblin, and all the Monks and everyone else I spoke with...forgetting some I'm sure. So many amazing characters there. So many good conversations.
Love me some Mirror Mirror. Can't wait to get back.
