The last primary is over, but people aren't any nicer

Jun 04, 2008 16:07

It's been cleansing to read some of the political LJ posts today; they've made up (mostly) for some of the other political LJ posts today. It is nice to have the primary season over and done with, even if things turned out not as I would have had them.

In spite of an earlier post of mine about fostering unity among voting blocs, I find myself now feeling quite distant from a Democratic party that can endorse someone I find so personally alienating. And in sooth, I feel like very little unity has been fostered; certainly the Obama-supporters on my flist, with only a few exceptions, have done more hate-mongering than unity-fostering. There are quite a few bloodthirsty posts even today, a day when one might think Obama-supporters would be looking to shake hands with Clinton-supporters. They clearly don't want my vote, or not enough to win graciously.

I will vote in November -- if only to weigh in on another 2 billion ballot initiatives -- but I'm not sure whether I will vote for a presidential candidate or, if so, for whom I would vote. If OCLC weren't so evil I'd be tempted to move to Ohio to be a proper swing vote. As it is, I don't think it really matters for whom I vote; I am in California, after all.

EDIT: I think comments on this post aren't going to help matters, so I'm going to screen them.
