Mix tapes to itunes

I've been gradually listening to mix tapes (!) made for me by various friends -- really, I only have a few still around, and have listened to those since the last time I owned a car. Anyway, I'm going through them and trying to identify the songs (often without any "liner notes" from the friend who made the tape) and then trying to find as many of the songs as I can on itunes so that Irish Jersey can replicate the mix tapes as playlists, more or less.

The internet has gotten way less helpful at identifying quoted phrases of lyrics since I last worked in a music library. Some copyright owners obviously have been cracking down. :(

Oh, the nostalgia! Not only are these tapes taking me back to the decades of the songs, but also to the various car-trips I took when listening to them. The several tapes made by John Hanley (now living in Atlanta, when last I checked) are definite faves (and I can't seem to find all of them, I guess some car or other ate them?) as is the one made by my high school friend, Sara Forrest. Both of these people have tastes at least as eclectic as mine, and finding the source materials without liner notes has been a challenge indeed. (A challenge I'm often failing at, I should add.) I may actually have to - gasp - call the makers of the tapes to ask for help!

Or maybe post lyrics to LJ, although I'm sure I'd end up way-embarassed at what I hadn't been able to identify. What price dignity?

I do want to know who covered The Pussy Cat song, in a raved up version, sometime in the 90s. I was able to find a country version. "Sore, wet, hot, pussy...just a friendly little cat!" or something like that.
