Rehearsing conversations

You know how sometimes you kind of rehearse conversations in your head in advance of the "performance," so to speak? Just to hear how you might put things, etc.? I've been wondering how I might ask if I can leave a couple of items at his place, so as to make the process of staying the night less of a process.

In my imagination...

Me: Would you mind if I left a few things at your place, to make staying overnight easier?
Him: Oh, like what things?
Me: Well, you know...like a sharps container, shampoo....normal stuff.
