I'm very tired of the people who think it's fine for Martin to rest on his laurels and not actually work. In the time he's been "working" on ADwD, I've written 7 manuscripts and numerous short stories. A lot of that time also goes into research and combing my mss meticulously to kill all the typos. Interestingly, in this time I've also managed to fall in love, move to another country, get married, etc. etc. No one is paying me for any of that, yet it still gets done.
As far as I'm concerned, if Martin isn't willing to work for his publishing contracts, he can hand them over. Writers are some of the only people who seem to think they're entitled to be treated just like other people, right up until the point where OTHER people would be fired. Then suddenly, they're artists! They deserve special treatment and shouldn't have to lose their jobs because they're not working.
Pfft. Horse pucky.
To end this rant, I'd just like to point out that the answer to Gaiman's "George R.R. Martin is not your bitch" line is "Well, no, Mr. Gaiman, but I'm not George R.R. Martin's bitch, either".
