Sowing the Seeds of Anger

Ah, spring.  The time of year when a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of warm weather, spending time with friends, and books he would like to see published sometime before the Aztec apocalypse.  As usual, there is no stunningly remarkable news in the world of GRRM.  However, that does not mean there isn't fun to be had here at FTBG!  Because as ( Read more... )

So according to Wikipedia, War and Peace comes in at "over 560,000 words" (in English translation). Let's see how Mr. Writer's Block stacks up against Tolstoy ( ... )

You forgot to mention that War and Peace is a major accomplishment of Western literature while a Dance with Dragons will at best be a NYT bestseller. You flatter ol' Fat Fingers a bit too much in the comparison

Agreed. If we assume that writing ADWD is *easier* than writing a masterpiece like War and Peace (as I assume it is) then that gives Chuckles even *less* excuse for not writing.

Nice!

But, to clarify: Back when Martin made the original announcement, he had said 'the book is done, but it's too big to be published as one volume. I am splitting it in 2 for that reason, and the 2nd part will be out next year.' That was five years ago, now.

That is the central point to the whole damned mess: the one that most of his defenders and such either ignore outright, or have no idea about. Martin lied to his fans. That, I think we have a right to bitch about without someone pulling the entitlement flag.

I'd just like to point out that between April 7th and 10th--three days--he managed to churn out 6,585 words of fiction for the sake of that cage match bullshit he's so giddy about.

Writer's block? Seems more like the inability to focus on what *should* be high-priority, in favor of frittering his time away on endless distractions and/or blogging about them.

I hope he doesn't write on a computer with an internet connection. Can you just imagine him sitting there fucking around on the internet while one little tab for Dance of Dragons idles at the bottom of the screen?

his writing computer isn't connected to the internet. so while he's fucking around on the internet (and i think we can describe the 5 blog posts on monday and his constant reloading of the suvudu cage match page to check the vote totals as 'fucking around') that little adwd tab isn't even there.
