A Song of Felt and Yarn

Sep 01, 2009 19:28

Hey all,

Well, as you know, it's time for the unwashed, pimply-faced masses of teenagers to slog their ways back into school, which means my summer fun is over.  Doubly so, now that I see that the most recent issue of Game Informer is promoting the Valyrian Steel moneysucker known as Longclaw.  Jesus Christ, that thing looks like a piece of garbage.

(to be fair, there are some more reasonable posts attacking the attacker, but still... I'm really beginning to hate those sycophants.)

they are nothing but a bunch of ass kickers too afraid to go out and ask him directly to finish the book, saying stuff like "oh i hope you get some inspiration to finish in one week but i dont expect that because of Stephen King so keep up the good work LOL" . If everyone would just let him know what they really want without tip toeing around the subject (DANCE) maybe it will motivate him to focus more on that.

Damn, beaten to the punch. I too saw this post on GRRM's livejournal and was coming here to post and comment on it.

Since the former has already been done, I'll add: is this what GRRM meant with his lofty "Gratuitously nasty or insulting posts directed at the actors or producers of the HBO series will be deleted, just as if they were nasty or insulting posts directed at me. Ditto attacks on other posters" speech of August 22nd? Because right now those words sure seem hollow.

The guy making the inquiry obviously took care to make sure his post was polite and friendly, while the 'dedicated fan' (to remain polite and friendly in the spirit of The Man's speech) who answered it gets away with his gratuitous attack.

Come to think of it, maybe The Man could post a message/notice saying: "Nasty and insulting posts will be condemned and deleted only when they are directed at the following: myself, and the persons or products I decide to promote. Otherwise, and *especially* in the case of people inquiring about A Dance with Dragons regardless of the tone of their post, fire away."

Y'know, in the spirit of making the double standard clear and understood by all.

It's more or less what I expected. If a fan is enough of a lackwit to call someone an idiot for politely asking a reasonable question, then there's a good chance that they're the type of person who might buy a Wildcards novel or other merch'. You've got to let people like that post so that they maintain their feeling of being an insider with special privileges.

And maybe even hand them a tissue to wipe their mouths off.

What I thought really sucked about this was if someone had said something like that to GRRM or one of his bootlickers the post would have been deleted. Ty came on and gave an apology, but let the post stay. Get some balls, man! Delete the post. Blouse!

Oh, wow. Ty actually did something about the rude and insulting Martin supporter... he gave tsgeisel a polite rebuke, and *didn't* delete his post. Like Chris says, if the insulting post had instead been made by a Martin detractor, it would almost certainly have been deleted in short order.

The double standard is alive and well.
