Let's Play Nice....Fuck off!!!

My posts about the recent castings have drawn plenty of comments, which is great.

But they have also brought out the trolls... or, to give some of them the benefit of the doubt, some thoughtless and rude posters.

I don't mind readers posting their opinions, even critical opinions. But I do expect posters to show a certain amount of respect. ( Read more... )

To be fair, I expect that post was aimed at people who made rude comments about the acting choices on those recent threads, not at us, his usual detractors, specifically.

Oh, and for those who worry that the TV series will come to delay or outright supersede the books, a fan asked about that, and, wonder of wonders, GRRM answered:

The inquiry:

i would like to be respectful and polite when mentioning this so it does make it through into your blog.

This television series seems to be getting a lot of you attention george. It seems to be #1 priority. I am just posting to share my worry that the Books will be left behind and not a major priority anymore if this TV series is Popular. All i would like is some reassurance that the books are going to continue and not be replace by the tv series.

Thank you.

GRRM's answer:

The books are going to continue and not be replaced by the TV series.

Mind you, The Man *also* hoped to be finished with Dance months and even years ago, and we all know what came of *that,* so perhaps we should take his answer with a grain of salt.

To me, there is no way this tv series CANNOT delay the writing of the books. Martin has constant demands on his time already that are far less "important" than keeping HBO happy.

Let's say Martin is into a Dany chapter. He gets a phone call from someone at HBO, needing his input as a consultant as to whether Ned would say a particular line of dialogue. Martin takes it under consideration and promises to get back later that day. Now who in their right mind actually thinks the Dany chapter will now take precedence in Martin's day?

Martin will deliberate about Ned and the tv series and drop the Dany chapter for another time.

This is just one possible example out of a host of others that will crop up over the course of filming the series.

It's depressing.

We can only hope that if the series does get greenlighted, GRRM's involvement won't increase to the point where his direct input is required several times on a daily basis.
