I wish I could tell you, George, not to mind the mass of ASOIAF-fans' cries of anger, waving of tridents and torches and demands of books being written and released. I can't, though, since I'm a stranger on the internet. But I really wish people could stop being so upset just because they can't wait to consume some media they like. Creating is a fragile process, be it writing, painting or sculpting, and the creative process is best left undisturbed by outsiders. An author's story should be hers/his (and persons' from whom she/he seeks help) business alone AND NO ONE ELSE'S, until the point where it's ready to be released, in my opinion.

It's a bit of a bummer, but okay - and I'm glad you're going back to your "update when it's done" stance. I was thinking it would come sometime mid-2016 anyways.
Like you said, the show's diverged so much that a lot of the spoilers from Season 6 won't be much in the way of spoilers. And the one thing that might be genuinely spoiled by the show in an unavoidable way is something that a lot of fans already strongly suspect is going to go down a certain way.
