i attribute my absolute worship of the midcentury pracitcal arts and design to two things: the frank lloyd wright price tower was practically right outside my bedroom window for me to see every night of my young formative years... and my grandparents' wood shop was filled to the brim with all manner of 30's - 60's ephemera, perfectly preserved. plus the colors and comps are downright savvy. there is no denying the kitsch power of fins, giant fiberglas lampshades, and mod compositions.
while i now believe that mod culture is almost wholly relegated to the wasteland of southern california - to exist eternally between the burbs of burbank and the high desert of san diego, i still have a healthy appreciation of
neo mod kitsch art - it's almost better than the real thing.
... and i found a person who has an
absolutely astonishing midcentury prop collection photographed and displayed on flickr - read the descriptions!!
