Few people that i know on here are from NJ especially the southern end but its exciting news anyway..

Sonic Drive-In in Waretown

New Jersey's first Sonic Drive-In serves its first customers today Wednesday 11/07/07 in Waretown, with a grand opening from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The chain is a novelty for the state, not to be confused with today's expected notion of a drive-through/thru. Customers park their cars at drive-in stalls (where they can listen to the Sonic radio network) and push a red button on a menu board in order to place orders. Carhops deliver the food to patron vehicles or a patio area.

The chain, the largest of its kind nationally with 3,300 drive-ins, offers fare such as cherry limeades, tater tots and coneys: corn dogs on sticks and extra-long hot dogs topped with options like chilli, mustard and onions. Also available are wraps, toasted sandwiches, breakfast combos, chicken sandwiches, shakes, slushes, ice cream and salads. Originally called Top Hat Drive-In, the fast-food stands started serving hamburgers in 1953 in Shawnee, Okla., transitioning to the Sonic name in 1959.

The new Sonic is at 566 Route 9, Waretown. Call 609-971-8700.
